Mayor Mike and his loyal terrier Dan Doctoroff failed to get the votes necessary to build a West Side Stadium in Manhattan which means the Olympics are not coming to NYC.
Thank God! For two reasons! First, there is one hard fast rule you learn when you move to New York...the city survives on these three words..."Keep it Movin'" The Summer Olympics muck EVERYTHING up. It's bad enough moving around oon a tiny island with millions of people living on top of each other and dealing with a daily injection of mania, traffic, and attitude. A three week clusterblock would seize the place up. We do not need a "velodrome" or "archery ranges" or "sailing yards" or any of the other crap that the Olympics need for three weeks at cost of a gazillion dollars, but that will never be used after that and will fail to make it worth the effort or cost expended. See Sarajevo, Atlanta, Barcelona, or any other recent summer games city using that crap? Of course not! They sit there gathering dust like empty ruins. The Winter games are light-years better and more compelling anyway since we don't beat everybody like rented donkeys in every event. It's more competitive and...hint...they hold them in resort cities that have a much greater infrastructure already in place.
More than that, with 12 Billion dollars saved (and not wasted) we can now build the Second Avenue Subway, low cost housing (yeah right,) and one great public access track all New Yorkers can be proud of. You have no excuse now, New York.
Yeah...right...we'll get a real golf course to play...and pigs will fly next week too.
