Trickshot Championship turns new page

The Golf Pages, an official publication of the Professional Golfers' Association, has taken on the title sponsorship of next week's World Golf Trickshot Championship at Celtic Manor.

The event will henceforth be known as The Golf Pages World Golf Trickshot Championship, a move which has delighted organisers.

Paul Smith, a director of the The Golf Pages WGTSC, said: "We are delighted The Golf Pages has joined forces with us for the inaugural event."

"Just as our competition is a little bit different, so is The Golf Pages a change from the normal golf magazine. For a start it's the only consumer voice of the PGA - and that tells you a lot."

"It's great news for us that such an esteemed magazine is embracing our event in this fashion and just goes to show how widespread is the appeal of golf trick shots."

David Ward, publisher of The Golf Pages, was also happy with the agreement which will see next week's event re-branded.

"The Golf Pages World Golf Trickshot Championship is a unique event and ours is a unique magazine," he explained.

"We have been talking to the organisers for the past couple of months and we were delighted to reach an agreement. The competition will be intense I'm sure, but it will also be great fun."

"The chance to see the show of one of these guys should not be missed - the chance to see a dozen of them in action is a rare treat indeed. We believe it will be a great event in a great setting."

"And it's a fine vehicle for our publication's first venture into title sponsorship."

The inaugural The Golf Pages World Golf Trickshot Championship takes place on June 6 at Celtic Manor, Gwent - and tickets are still available.

A dozen of the world's top exponents will battle it out for the right to be called The Golf Pages World Golf Trickshot champion.

Competitors have the chance to perform a short set of just over 10 minutes before the judges make their selection of three finalists based on technical merit, entertainment value and presentation style.

The resulting three-way final gives the competitors a last opportunity to show off their dazzling tricks before a winner is selected. With £20,000 at stake this is serious stuff, guaranteeing some tense excitement as the competition draws to a close.

The excellence of fare on show at Celtic Manor is complemented by the quality of the judging panel, which is headed by Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray. Fellow commentator Robert Lee and tour player Mark Roe - both of whom are on the Ryder Cup selection committee - complete the line-up.
