FORT WORTH, Tex. - A year after starting the LeaderBoard of Dallas franchise, Rob Frnka was ready to grow. So he became the organization's first double franchisee by adding LeaderBoard of Fort Worth, making him the go-to guy for golf tournament organizers throughout The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, the area encompassing the two Texas cities.
Rob and his wife, Debbie, took the second step quicker than the first -- he originally spent six months doing due diligence researching the Dallas franchise-- and with even more confidence the decision was made to grow into the Fort Worth market.
"We aren't really risk takers but we like pushing the envelope a little bit and taking a chance when something comes along where you have a chance to excel," explains the 34-year-old father of two. "The success of the Dallas franchise made our decision very easy to move into Fort Worth."
What they're moving into is the 25th LeaderBoard office world-wide…just 14 months after getting into the 13th. That gives event organizers throughout The Metroplex easy access to the most extensive multimedia package for entertaining and satisfying their customers and sponsors at everything from charity or corporate golf tournaments to fundraising auctions.
There are multiple tools for Rob to utilize and bring to his customers. LeaderBoard's services provide many ways for events to promote their sponsors, entertain their guests, and increase revenues.
"I've got a wonderful job…it's the best job I've ever had," he adds. "It's fun doing something that can really make a difference. Going into this I thought it was strictly a golf business. The non-golf market is probably much bigger than the tournament market. There's no limit on how big LeaderBoard can get."
After launching LeaderBoard of Dallas in the spring of 2004, Frnka quickly discovered that what he suspected all along was true: his business overlapped into nearby Fort Worth. From the day he made his first LeaderBoard franchise decision, he had his eye on the second.
There was no finite timeline.
"One of my goals for this year was to acquire Fort Worth," Frnka says. "All the indicators for success were there. LeaderBoard has been well received in Dallas and some of my contacts were falling on the Fort Worth side. It happened much quicker than I expected. There were tournaments in the Fort Worth territory wanting to utilize our services. The reception has been great."
The Frnkas live in the north part of Dallas, about 40 minutes from each city's downtown, depending on traffic. Both franchises are owned and operated by him, and he is the sole full-time employee.
"It's really just me right now," he says. "I have a some really good people who help at events and the near future we will be adding employees."
LeaderBoard of Dallas worked 15 golf tournaments in 2004, and has now completed 22 golf events in their first 14 months of business. Rob anticipates with the addition of Fort Worth completing more than 30 tournaments in 2005.
The feedback from his clients was part of the reason Frnka decided to expand.
"It absolutely did," Rob recalls. "The best feedback is when you're at a tournament and people come up and thank you making their event better. Our business continues to grow through word of mouth and referrals from our satisfied clients. We have established some great relationships with tournament organizers, golf courses and charities. LeaderBoard is quickly becoming the go-to resource for tournaments and special events in the Metroplex."
And in his case, that means getting the call to "go to" Fort Worth.
