SMU finishes fourth at Maxwell

ARDMORE, OKLA. (SMU) May 15, 2005 — The SMU men’s golf team finished tied for fourth at the 14th-annual Perry Maxwell Invitational at the par-70, 6,453-yard Dornick Hills Golf Club. Scott Abbott and Will Dodson were the top SMU finishers, placing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Oklahoma State captured the tournament title with a 25-under 815, besting Augusta State by one shot. Georgia (823, -17) finished third, SMU (825, -15) and Tulsa tied for fourth, Oklahoma (827, -13) slipped from a share of the lead to sixth, Auburn (841, +1) placed seventh, Penn State (852, +12) placed eighth, Texas-Arlington (859, +19) placed ninth, Colorado (862, +22) placed 10th and Oklahoma City (866, +26) completed the field.

Individually, Georgia’s Brendon Todd won the event with a 7-under 203. SMU’s Abbott and Dodson placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at 3-under 207 and 1-over 211. Colt Knost tied for 22nd at 7-over 217 and Dan Kleckner tallied a 10-over 220 to finish 31st. Brandon DeStefano and Wes Homan tied for 38th at 13-over 223. James Minahan was one shot back at 11-over 224, tying for 43rd. Zeke Reyna rounded out the SMU group, tying for 46th at 15-over 225.
