St. Petersburg, FL (May 16, 2005) - The Tampa Bay Chapter of NFL Alumni is hosting a golf tournament to benefit local charities. The event will include a poker tournament as well as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer Reunion Party June 12 and 13.
The Pro Legends Shootout Golf Tournament is June 13 at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club. Golfers will be playing for a trip to Maui, Hawaii next April for the 2006 Super Bowl of Golf, all expenses paid. Teams of five, four golfers and an NFL alumnus captain will tee off at 9:30 a.m. in an 18-hole scramble. The six low-net scoring teams advance to a shootout to determine the champions. A private VIP pairings party will be held at 7 p.m. June 12.
The “No Limit” Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament will be held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino June 12, and will feature an NFL Legend at each of 12 tables starting at 4 p.m. The Tampa Bay Buccaneer Reunion Bash Party is June 12 will begin at noon and will be open to the public. The party will be co-hosted by former Buccaneer stars Doug Williams and Jimmy Giles.
Players can qualify for the poker tournament in one of five satellite tournaments or buy one of 58 available seats in the main event for $200. Satellites, with a buy-in of $120, will be held May 31 and June 2, 4, 7 and 9 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. All satellites are at 7 p.m. except June 4 at 11 a.m. The top ten finishers in each satellite tournament qualify for the main event, plus winning payouts from $163 to $2,380 based on order of finish. The prize pool for the main event is $11,600, with payouts from $270 for tenth place to $3,944 for the winner. Tickets for satellite tournaments are on sale at the casino, cash sales at the poker room cashier podium, credit cards at the retail store or at (813) 627-7620. Proceeds from both the golf and poker tournaments will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay and the Shriners Hospital for Children, keeping with the NFL Alumni mission, “Caring for Kids.” In the past 22 years this golf tournament has contributed more than a half million dollars to local charities.
NFL alumni expected to play in the golf tournament include Brad Culpepper, L.C. Greenwood, John Holt, Gary Huff, Barry Smith, Tom Redmond, Jimmy Giles, Parnell Dickinson, Randy Coffield, Ron Sellers, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Doug Williams, Kenny Kaplan, Larry Ball, Don Nottingham, Charlie Hannah, John Reger, Sr., Jim Hart, George Mira, Jim Jensen, Bob Hewko, Albert Bentley, Mark Carrier, Fran Curci, Lawrence Dawsey, Dwayne Woodruff, Cookie Brinkman, Scot Brantley, Lamar Thomas, Mark May, Kevin House and Billy Joe Dupree.
