ORLANDO, Fla. - It has been a rewarding first year for Shingle Creek Golf Club, which has quickly become one of Orlando's premier golf facilities.
There have been more than 50,000 rounds played over the 7,228-yard, par-72 championship layout, a significant one-year total for any golf course. Shingle Creek has twice hosted both the Grey Goose Putt For A Million and regional auditions for The Big Break, the Golf Channel's reality-based television show. The course has also been the site of the Scott Hoch Tee-Lo Invitational, Golfweek's Super News Test Drive and the UCF Coaches Classic, among others. Shingle Creek has held more than 150 outings so far.
And that's just on the golf course. Away from the links, but still very much on Shingle Creek's elegant grounds, the Brad Brewer Golf Academy has continued to garner acclaim, and plans have continued for the opening of the 1,500-room Shingle Creek Resort & Golf Club, in Fall 2006.
"I think everything has far exceeded our expectations," says Dave Scott, Director of Golf at Shingle Creek Golf Club. "Our goal has been to provide the best course conditions and the best guest service that we can. I think we have succeeded in this regard to date but we WILL continue to strive for improvement in these areas going forward."
"I have been surprised at the overwhelming response to our local Driver¹s Club program. It has been MUCH better than I expected," adds Scott. "We currently have almost 400 people in the program." The Driver¹s Club Program at Shingle Creek allows local Orlando area residents the opportunity to enjoy our facility at a discounted rate YEAR ROUND and participate in lower Food and Beverage and golf shop merchandise pricing. For an annual fee of $59.95 the cardholder does receive a USGA Handicap for the year in addition to specials at Rosen Hotel restaurants.
Other things have also helped establish Shingle Creek as a place to go. Valuable exposure has been gained by having the Grey Goose Putt For A Million televised nationally, live, on The Golf Channel.
"I have people tell me all the time that they saw us on The Golf Channel," says Scott.
Shingle Creek has opened a top-class bar and grille, provided seamless valet parking, let golfers enjoy the benefits of the GPS yardage system that's on golf carts, and benefited from the opening of the Brad Brewer Golf Academy.
The Brewer Academy covers three important areas of game improvement: Scoring Zone, Swing Fundamentals and Course Management. A computerized swing analysis is used. Lessons are based on a 4 to 1student to instructor ratio, with individual sessions also available.
"I think people have responded so well to the Academy because of the technology that's employed, and Brad's experience with juniors," says Scott. "He is a good business man who has run golf academies for a long time."
Shingle Creek's location behind the new extension to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, a major facility for business gatherings, is another key reason it's getting so much business. Scott says the proximity has generated a high amount of walk-on rounds, and has also magnified the potential for hotel and golf package partners.
Shingle Creek's stature will increase in Year Two. Scott says the facility is hopeful it can secure a nationally-recognized golf event like a qualifying round of the U.S. Open, the Buick Scramble, or another prestigious tournament. The opening of the hotel next year will provide another boost.
"We expect our business to grow quite a bit this year, level off a little in 2006 and then spike quite a bit again after the resort opens," says Scott.
Before that happens, Shingle Creek can look back at an extremely successful first year of operations.
"Our reputation for service is excellent and we have many happy associates who have been here since we opened" says Scott. "Golfers should come to Shingle Creek because of our course conditions, service, value and location."
Shingle Creek Golf Club is located at 9939 Universal Blvd., just off exit 2 of the Bee Line Expressway (S.R. 528). The David Harman designed course features undulating fairways and interconnecting waterways bordered by the natural backdrop of dense oaks and pines along historic Shingle Creek.
Shingle Creek Golf Club features a state-of-the-art practice facility, the Brad Brewer Golf Academy, a world-class clubhouse, golf carts with UpLink GPS yardage system, complimentary valet parking, full-service golf shop, and club and shoe rentals.
