VNA Golf Tournament proceeds to benefit children

FALMOUTH – Sept. 30, 2004 – The Healthcare Foundation of Cape Cod for the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Cape Cod, which had conducted the 2004 VNA Golf Tournament at the Woods Hole Golf Club recently, has announced that all tournament proceeds this year will be directed to the VNA’s Children’s Fund and will support programs that benefit children in medical need across Cape Cod.

Among other purposes, the Children’s Fund is used to bring home healthcare and equipment to seriously ill children; to provide children with immunizations and screenings; to provide respite care to families caring for terminally ill children and to provide support for new parents.

Angelina, a six-year old Mashpee resident with cerebral palsy, is one such child who has benefited from the VNA’s Children’s Fund. Ann Aia, Angelina’s grandmother – who is raising the child – had a chance to get an equipped handicapped van that would dramatically increase Angelina’s mobility and independence. However, she could not afford the van. The VNA Children’s Fund paid for the difference and the family was able to buy the van. “This van has made so much of a difference for Angelina,” Ann Aia said. “We can go places and she can be a part of things now. I can easily take her and drop her off with her friends. The VNA is great. If you are stuck and need help in any aspect of life, they are right there.”

This year marks the 23rd straight year that this tournament has been held at the Woods Hole Golf Club. “This tournament is one of our most important events of the year,” said Judy Tarr, President and CEO of the VNA of Cape Cod. “It helps us tremendously in our mission of delivering advanced healthcare to people and communities throughout Cape Cod. We’re very proud of our relationship with the Woods Hole Golf Club and especially grateful to all of the golfers, sponsors and volunteers who participate in this event.”

The VNA of Cape Cod provides more than 370,000 annual home health care visits. In addition to providing direct patient care in the home such as wound treatment, IV therapy, rehabilitation services, and hospice and palliative care, the VNA also provides numerous services designed to improve the health and wellness of Cape communities, including screenings, immunizations and programs that not only help people deal with illnesses, but prevent them in the first place. The VNA also provides a range of support groups for different illnesses, and interpreters for those who need them. VNA services are available to Cape Cod residents and visitors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. For more information on VNA services, call 800-631-3900.
