PGA Play Golf America Day in Sacramento, Calif.

Play Golf America Day is scheduled Friday, May 20, at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex (Capital City Freeway and Fulton Ave.) in Sacramento, Calif. It is one of only 12 regional events slated across the nation and the only one planned for the West Coast.

The PGA of America's objective for the day is to introduce new players to the game in a "fun" and "non-intimidating manner," while also encouraging former players to dust off their clubs and return to the sport.

Open and free to the public, the PGA Play Golf America Daywill be packed with activities from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. PDT. Wilson Golf will distribute a free golf club to the first 1,500 new golfers attending the event. Cobra Long-Drive Expert, Vince Howell, will present his electrifying performance on the Haggin Oaks Driving Range.

PGA and LPGA teaching professionals will conduct free golf mini-lessons throughout the day. The clinics will focus on all aspects of the game and will be open to beginners, intermediate, and advanced level players.

"Golf is a game for everyone, and it's time for us as PGA Professionals to explain in simple terms that taking up the sport can be a fun, rewarding, and enjoyable experience to be shared with others," states Carol Pence, Northern California PGA Growth of the Game Director. "If the game is introduced in a positive, upbeat and non-threatening environment, we will surely capture and retain more golf enthusiasts."

Several of the golf industry's leading equipment manufacturers will be on site at the Play Golf America Day including: Callaway Golf, Nike, Ping, Cobra, Wilson, MacGregor and more. They will make available their latest equipment, and attendees will be invited to test clubs on the range, wedges at the chipping area and putters on the practice green. Representatives from each participating manufacturer will also be accessible to provide accurate club fitting and product insight.

In addition, attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about golf participation programs that are connected to the Play Golf America initiative, including Link Up 2 Golf, First Swing for Adults and PGA Free Lesson Month (May), among others. About Play Golf America

The Play Golf America campaign is a complete package of growth-of-the-game programs targeting the adult population of various segments, including couples, women, families and business professionals. Play Golf America's objectives are to reach 17 million golfers who have expressed a desire to play golf and the 14 million occasional golfers who play between one and seven times per year. In support of the campaign, The PGA of America has developed an industry-sponsored Web site, www.playgolfamerica.com, which serves as a link for citizens to access adult player development programs in their local communities that are of most interest to them. Programs featured on the Web site are designed to be fun, inclusive, affordable and informative, so that adults and their families can enjoy the game, and former golfers can increase the frequency of their participation in golf.

Led by The PGA of America, this industry initiative is supported by the National Golf Course Owners Association, PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA and GOLF 20/20. United in these efforts at the state and regional level are The Northern California PGA, The Northern California Golf Association, The Southern California PGA, The Southern California Golf Association, The California Golf Course Owners Association, The Northern California Golf Course Superintendents Association, the Executive Women's Golf Association, The Shivas Irons Society and The California Alliance for Golf.

In addition, NCPGA Growth of the Game supporters include: Page & Tuttle, Imperial Headwear, Ahead Headgear, Katherine Robert's Total Fitness-Yoga for Golfers, Best Approach Publications, Joann Dost Photography, DivotMat, Maxfli, Bridgestone/Precept, Golf707, and Golo Golf.
