The Center for Living & Working (CLW) is sponsoring a first-swing golf clinic in conjunction with the Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) and the National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA) at Stow Acres Country Club in Stowe, MA (www.stowacres.com) on May 13th & 14th (Friday & Saturday).
A sandwich lunch and drink will be provided on both days, courtesy of Big Y.
DAY ONE (9am-3pm): Rehabilitation care providers, recreational, physical & occupational therapists/leaders, manager/supervisors, and educators are invited to attend Day One for the purpose of learning how to teach people with disabilities how to play golf for recreation and as a tool for rehabilitation.
DAY TWO (9am-3pm): People with disabilities are invited to receive hands-on training by the newly trained instructors.
There are multiple purposes for the event:
· Utilizing golf as a form of rehabilitation
· Utilizing golf as a form of recreation
· Raising public awareness of ADA concerns on the golf course
Whether you're a medical professional looking for another creative form of rehabilitation or you're a person with a disability who wants to get back in the game or maybe learn golf for the first time; you're sure to have a nice day at beautiful Stow Acres Country Club learning something fun and new under the supervision of two of the finest in the business - Bob Wilson (President of the Eastern Amputee Golf Association) and local
attorney, Marty Ebel. Accessible golf carts will be available for use, provided by SoloRider.
The hands-on clinic will:
· Introduce and review basic golfing techniques to improve functional skills such as range of motion and balance.
· Provide an opportunity to interact with others; including other people with physical disabilities in a lifelong leisure activity.
· Demonstrate the use of specialized equipment designed for golf.
