Bulle Rock continues to rise on national ranking lists

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD. - Although it is now in its eighth year of play, Bulle Rock isn't getting older, it's getting better. At least that is the way the ranking lists produced by national golf publications view the Pete Dye masterpiece in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

Due to an influx of many new, great golf courses, a lot of older favorites have fallen in the national rankings or dropped off the Top 100 lists altogether. That is not the case with Bulle Rock.

In the latest listing of Golfweek's Top 100 Modern Courses, Bulle Rock improved from No. 85 to No. 84. Even more impressive is Bulle Rock's progress on Golf Digest's list of Top 100 courses in the country. Despite the fact that a record number of 19 new courses pushed their way onto the list in 2005, Bulle Rock improved from No. 37 to No. 33.

"We are very proud of the national recognition we receive," reports Bulle Rock director of golf Rick Rounsaville. "It shows that the raters appreciate the amount of work and attention to detail we have put into this property. Although Bulle Rock is only eight years old, we have been on a constant program of improvement here."

Evidence of that claim comes from the fact that Bulle Rock has undergone some impressive improvements this year in preparation for hosting its first major championship, the McDonald's LPGA Championship June 9-12. Preparations include a major clubhouse expansion and renovation. An additional 7,000 square feet of space has been added - including a banquet room that seats up to 240 people, a separate bar and grille and a separate dining room, and a larger pro shop.

Outside, Bulle Rock has added a 17,000 square foot putting green and the old putting green has been incorporated into an elaborate short game practice complex. All of those improvements certainly will be appreciated by the LPGA professionals, as well as visiting daily fee guests throughout the year.

"The spotlight of the LPGA Championship will focus even more attention on Bulle Rock and that means we can never let up in our efforts to continue to improve," asserts Rounsaville. "More visitors, more raters, more writers and more golf industry officials will visit Bulle Rock than at any time in the past and we are dedicated to providing a first class experience."
