Indian Golf Union’s first ever Golf Academy

NEW DELHI: The Indian Golf Union and the Professional Golfers Association of India have set up the first-ever Golf Academy, aimed at giving the right push to the golfing talent in the country.

The joint initiative will come as a welcome boost to a large number of talented golfers who have, over time, felt the need for quality assistance to move ahead and become world beaters. The classification of coaches have already been done for the purpose.

'The coaching program for teaching professionals is being conducted under the aegis of Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), the governing body of golf in the world outside of USA and European PGA,' it said adding that the program would be funded by R&A.

The main objective of the program is to establish uniform teaching system throughout the country.

A committee headed by Donato Di Ponziano, with two representatives each from IGU and PGAI besides two teaching professionals has been formed. This committee would be in place for three years by which time the entire system is expected to be established.
