Former champs commit to Sybase Classic

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Tournament officials for the Sybase Classic presented by Lincoln Mercury today announced that former champions Hee-Won Han ('03), Michele Redman ('97), Gloria Park ('02) and Sherri Steinhauer ('04) have committed to play when the tournament returns to the historic Wykagyl Country Club May 16-22, 2005.

"We welcome back the defending Sybase Classic champions and anticipate a strong field of players," said Marty Beard, senior vice president, Corporate Development and Marketing at Sybase. "We are expecting many Sybase customers and partners from around the world who look forward to an exciting tournament."

"It's always nice to see former champions return to the track where they've had success on in the past," said Tournament Director Leela Narang. "You realize the excitement of tournament play is right around the corner when you receive the first commitment list from Tour headquarters. We have some new things planned for this year's tournament and the community will be able to get more involved in the event's success."

Han was the Tour's rookie of the year in 2001. She has won three tournaments since joining the Tour. In 2003, she avenged a 2002 second-place finish at the Sybase Classic by outlasting Meg Mallon down the stretch to win by two strokes.

Park claimed the 2002 Sybase Classic in a one-hole, sudden death playoff over Han. The Sybase Classic was her second win on Tour. She claimed the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic in 2001.

Redman's best finishes last season came at the U.S. Women's Open and the Weetabix Women's British Open where she tied for fifth in both. The 1997 winner of the Sybase Classic is one of only two wire-to-wire victors the tournament has seen. She took a four-stroke lead into the final round and eventually won by three strokes over Annika Sorenstam.

Steinhauer posted a season-low 66 in the third round of last year's Sybase Classic to enter the final round tied with Becky Morgan, three-strokes ahead of the field. She held off Grace Park's comeback an eventually won the tournament by two strokes. Steinhauer joined Annika Sorenstam and Betsy King as the only players to win the Sybase Classic more than once.

Golf enthusiasts are encouraged to log onto www.sybaseclassic.com or call 1-800-444-LPGA to take advantage of a limited-time ticket offer. That's two daily tickets for $20.

Sybase Classic Weekly Grounds Badges are also on sale for $50 and are good for admission all week. When purchasing the Weekly Grounds Badge, golf fans have the chance to not only watch a week's worth of golf, but make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. The tournament will take half of the weekly ticket price ($25) and donate it to The Greater New York City Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
