CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Harris Teeter supermarkets, one of the largest grocery store chains in the Southeast, has renewed its sponsorship of the Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Golf Tour. This marks Harris Teeter's fourth year as title sponsor of the tour.
"Having such a respected corporate partner as Harris Teeter certainly strengthens the organization as we continue to expand," said tour president Dennis McCormac. "This year we'll operate separate tours in 11 markets, most of which are served by Harris Teeter."
As part of the sponsorship agreement, Harris Teeter gift cards will be included in the prize structure throughout the year, and the tour will be promoted with posters and brochures throughout each market and in select Harris Teeter stores.
Each of the 11 divisions of the Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Golf Tour hosts a schedule of local tournaments for amateur golfers age 50 and up. Golfers may join at any time during the season. Golfers are placed into a flight based on their ability, and they accumulate points each time they participate. At season's end, the top golfers from each division receive invites to the 2005 Harris Teeter Senior Tour Championship, which will be held Nov. 8-9 in Pinehurst.
"We're expecting a big year in 2005 as more and more senior golfers hear about the tour," McCormac said. "And, plans are in the works to make this year's tour championship our biggest ever."
The Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour has divisions in the following Southeast markets: Charlotte; Fayetteville-Pinehurst; Johnson City; Knoxville; Nashville; Northern Virginia; Orlando; Raleigh-Durham and the Triad. Other divisions include Detroit and Evansville-Louisville.
