Al Barkow joins the Shivas Irons Society as editor-in-chief

In making the announcement, Society President Steve Cohen said, "We are honored that a writer of Al's stature is going to lead the SIS editorial team. With more than forty years as a journalist and a deep passion for the game of golf, we feel Al is the ideal Editor-in-Chief for The Journal."

Al Barkow is an award-winning writer and recent recipient of the 2005 PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism. He has written hundreds of articles on golf and other subjects for publications that include The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, Golf and Golf Digest. He has also served as the Editor-in-Chief of Golf Illustrated and Golf and was the Editor/Publisher of his own newsletter, Al Barkow's Golf Report. Currently, he is an Editor-at-Large for Golf Illustrated magazine.

"I respect the editorial mission that the Shivas Irons Society has set. Its standards are unprecedented. The first two issues of The Journal are inspiring, and I look forward to working with the writers and artists who are creating 'golf's new voice," Barkow said.

In addition to his publication achievements, Al Barkow is the author or co-author of several books on golf history and instruction. He has also written and produced Shell's Wonderful World of Golf and has been an on-camera commentator for Inside the PGA Tour and The Senior PGA Tour Shows.
