ESPN National Golf Challenge comes to Winton Country Club

Amherst County, Virginia -- The ESPN National Golf Challenge comes to Virginia's Winton Country Club on June 11, 2005.

The Amherst County golf course will participate as a qualifying site for this amateur two-person better ball tournament designed to find "America's Best 2-Some" in both Gross and Net Divisions. Two person teams from all over the US will register at host sites like Winton to attempt to play their way to the National Finals to be held in Las Vegas in November, 2005.

The event began in 2002 as a dedicated effort by ESPN to enhance contributions to one of their major charities, The V Foundation. PGA Tour Professional Fred Couples is the event's national spokesperson.

According to Winton Head Professional Eddie Moran, "We are thrilled to participate as a qualifying site for this prestigious, national event, especially since it benefits such worthy causes. The golf marketing experts at Virginia Golfer Network brought us this opportunity because of our participation in their multiple channel distribution program that makes it easy for golfers to book tee times online at Virginia golf courses, including Winton, on hundreds of targeted websites."

The Virginia Golfer Network, (virginiagolfernetwork.com), a new online golf website and golf marketing company, has joined forces with ESPN National Golf Challenge, to help its participating courses register as qualifying sites for this high profile event. ESPN is anticipating the participation of over 30,000 golfers for the 2005 tournament.

Teams may consist of any combination of male and/or female participants with a maximum allowable handicap of 24 strokes (in the Net Division). Entry fees for the event are $65 for members/$85 for non-members and include one dozen Callaway HX Tour Balls ($50 value) and an annual subscription to Golf Magazine ($25 value). Players may attempt to qualify for the Regional Finals at as many Local Host Sites as they wish. Gross and Net winners from each Regional Finals location will advance to the 36 hole National Finals in Las Vegas, November 14th and 15th, 2005. National Finalists will agree to participate in the filming and broadcast of our event in a one-hour special broadcast of the ESPN National Golf Challenge Finals on ESPN2.
