MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22 -- Northwest Airlines announced that it is offering a new "Best Fare Guarantee" over the Internet for tickets purchased through its nwa.com Web site in the United States.
The carrier also announced the implementation of new technology that will
provide consumers with an array of new ways to search for the best fares the
airline offers.
In addition, the carrier has begun selling travel insurance through its
Web site.
"These changes respond to our customers' calls for the ability to book
online with a higher degree of pricing confidence, more flexibility in fare
search capabilities and online options to purchase insurance protection in the
event of unexpected changes to their travel plans," said Al Lenza, vice
president of distribution and e-commerce. "Travelers can count on nwa.com for
the best fare, easy navigation, online flight check-in and other services that
provide greater power and control over their travel experience, all without
any booking or ticketing fees."
BEST FARE GUARANTEE AT NWA.COM
Effective immediately, Northwest is offering an online Best Fare Guarantee
on tickets purchased in the United States through its Web site at
http://www.nwa.com . If a difference in fare of $5 or more is found for the
same itinerary through any other Web site on the same day a ticket is
purchased via nwa.com, Northwest will refund the difference in fare and
provide the customer with an Electronic Credit Voucher (ECV) good for $50 in
future travel on Northwest Airlines.
"Our Best Fare Guarantee makes nwa.com an easy choice for travelers who
purchase their airline tickets online," said Lenza. "In addition to
guaranteeing the best fare, tickets purchased at nwa.com do not include the
booking fees that other Web sites charge and travelers can earn bonus miles in
our WorldPerks frequent flyer program."
To take advantage of Northwest's Best Fare Guarantee, customers must
complete an online claim form by midnight Central Time on the day they
purchase their ticket. Customers can access the Best Fare Guarantee claim
form at http://www.nwa.com/talk/claims.html . A complete list of terms and
conditions is included below.
NEW FARE SEARCH OPTIONS
Northwest also announced four new fare search options at nwa.com in
response to requests from its customers for greater choice and flexibility in
finding the lowest fare. The new functionality, which is offered for
purchases in the United States and Canada, includes:
-- Search by fare type. Northwest's nwa.com Web site now makes it
possible for visitors to its site to have the option of searching for
specific fare types. Previously, the site offered searches for either
the lowest coach, first or World Business Class fares. This new
feature, allowing consumers to search for specific fares that qualify
for special offers or promotions, or for fares that are more flexible,
was requested by users of nwa.com. For example, if a customer is
interested in the lowest fare that qualifies for Northwest's current
"1-2-3 Free" promotion, they can click on "More Search Options" in the
"Search for Flights and Fares" box on the home page of nwa.com. They
then select the "1-2-3 Free" options from the new "Search for Fare
Class" drop down menu. More information on Northwest's "1-2-3 Free"
offer is available at http://www.nwa.com/promo/123free4/ .
-- Flex search. This new option allows customers to search for the lowest
fare for a flight scheduled to operate up to three days before or after
a specified day of departure and/or return date. After clicking on
"More Search Options" in the "Search for Flights and Fares" box on the
home page of nwa.com, and then clicking on the "My travel dates are
flexible" link in the Flight Search page, visitors simply select one,
two or three days from the drop down menu. The new nwa.com display
will return a chart comparing fares on the initial date selected as
well as the fares on the days the traveler might also consider.
-- Weekend search. Consumers wishing to travel on a weekend days or days
in conjunction with a weekend can find the lowest fare through the new
Weekend Search at nwa.com, which searches for a flight itinerary to
their destination departing Thursday, Friday or Saturday and returning
on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. After clicking on "More Search
Options" in the "Search for Flights and Fares" box on the home page of
nwa.com, and then the "My travel dates are flexible" link in the Flight
Search page of nwa.com, visitors simply select the month during which
they'd like to take a weekend trip from a drop down menu and nwa.com
will display several fares based on different weekend travel days.
-- Search by price and schedule. Previously, customers had the choice of
searches purely by price or purely by schedule. Northwest's new
price/schedule search combines the two in one entry. From the home
page of nwa.com, customers can now select price, schedule, or
price/schedule. When price/schedule is selected, nwa.com will display
up to 15 outbound flights with prices and then later up to 15 return
flights.
Also at nwa.com, customers with e-tickets can change their reservations,
check in for their domestic or international flight -- including their return
trip up to 24 hours in advance -- and apply for ticket refunds.
NORTHWEST OFFERS TRAVEL INSURANCE THROUGH NWA.COM
Northwest also said it is offering travel protection through its nwa.com
Web site.
For a small fraction of the price of the customer's specific ticket, the
"Airline Ticket Protector" offers up to $3,000 in coverage. Trip cancellation
and interruption coverage includes:
-- Illness or injury to the ticket holder, covered family member,
traveling companion or family or friends with which the traveler
intended to stay
-- Weather or natural disasters that result in the complete cessation of
services by an airline, tour operator or cruise line scheduled for a
passenger's trip for at least 24 hours
-- Changes in employment
-- Jury duty, court order or subpoena
-- Fire, flood, burglary or other events that make a home uninhabitable
-- Certain changes in military service
Other coverage includes medical assistance, emergency cash transfers,
travel document and ticket replacement, hospital admissions assistance and
more.
During the reservations booking process at nwa.com, a "Trip
Cancellation/Interruption Insurance" box appears with the price of the
insurance for a customer's specific itinerary. Customers interested in the
insurance simply click the box. The insurance is fully refundable for 10 days
after it has been purchased, as long as the covered travel has not begun or a
claim has not been filed.
