MIAMI, Fla. (Sept. 23, 2004) - One sad day in May 2004, Astra's dedicated Florida rep, Kara Faust received an e-mail from Samsung announcing it was going to cease production of the Astra Golf Wear line in the United States. For a big conglomerate like Samsung, the golf wear line that had made such a splash with upscale women golfers just wasn't going to make the corporate cut.
Our sad sales rep realized she was losing this great line and that caused some panic, but the real problem was that she would really, really miss Astra! Six years ago, Kara Faust had planted the seed of better quality golf wear for the discriminating woman golfer and carefully nurtured it until it grew into her biggest line. Always a favorite with her upscale golf buyers, this line never failed to impress the customer with its tasteful, classic design and high quality fabric and construction.
As the day grew sadder and panic set in, the usually energetic Kara Faust did what all good sales reps do and turned her panic into positive energy. Kara called the President of Samsung's Fashion and Entertainment Division, Sookee Lee and simply asked if Astra could be continued in the US. Mr. Lee advised her to put a proposal together and they would consider it.
Kara then called her good buddy Steve Stern who has a lot of business savvy and
is the owner of a successful 50 year old apparel company. As the day happened
to be his birthday, she told him, "I have a birthday gift for you!" After filling him in on the details, the two went to work. After much wheeling and dealing, Astra was back before it went out!
Then the real work started. Kara and Steve called in Michelle Vasti and Rhonda Howard, two of Astra's key reps to help merchandise the line as Steve's design team went to work. They have successfully given the Astra line a look that is geared towards the upscale American market.
Astra is here to stay! The line will be manufactured in the same factories using the same fine quality fabrics as before. Samsung will be overseeing the manufacturing process.
Steve Sterns' company, Lord Daniel Sportswear, Inc. is the official licensee and
will be distributing Astra from its warehouse and offices in Florida.
The "Classic Collection", a collection of ASTRA's most popular styles in solid
colors will be available to ship 11/15/04. The "Fashion Statement" a Spring/Summer 2005 line introducing a fresh look and new colors will be available to ship January 2005. The line will be priced to retail at $65-$105. Juli Inkster will continue to represent the Astra line in ladies' championship golf.
A sales force is in place from Maine to Hawaii. Many were representatives with
Samsung and will continue with Astra and Lord Daniel Sportswear under the
leadership of Vice-President of Golf, Arthur Michaelson.
Lord Daniel Sportswear has a strong history of quality and integrity in the golf
and men's sportswear business. Founded by Marcus Stern in 1954 the Miami
Company continues to thrive under the leadership of Steve Stern, CEO, and Brett Stern, President. The addition of the ASTRA label makes Lord Daniel Sportswear one of the few companies offering golf apparel for every segment of the market.
