Nick Dougherty and Miles Tunnicliff have won the RBS Shot of the Month Awards for January and February respectively. The two Englishmen will each receive the RBS Shot of the Month Trophy and a £1000 cheque to donate to a charity of their choice.
Dougherty wins the January Award for his superb 150 yard wedge to three feet at the 16th hole in the final round of the Caltex Masters, presented by Carlsberg, Singapore 2005, which secured his first European Tour victory.
Tunnicliff was nominated for the February Award after playing an exquisite chip shot at the 13th hole in the last round of the Holden New Zealand Open, which he eventually lost to Sweden's Niclas Fasth after a sudden-death play-off.
Dougherty played his title-winning shot after receiving a free drop from ground under repair at a time when Colin Montgomerie had closed to within one stroke of him. He said: "I enjoyed a bit of good fortune with the drop but the shot I played then was the most important of my career so far.
"I hit a class shot that pitched exactly where I wanted and the ball rolled close to the hole. I felt that shot gave me a valuable psychological edge with Monty breathing down my neck."
Tunnicliff admitted: "I came up short at the 13th hole and knew the only way to get the ball close was to use the severe slope. I aimed about 30 feet to the right of the hole and hit a very delicate shot and it pitched perfectly and rolled back at right angles to the hole and finished stone dead. That shot kept my momentum going at a critical time."
The RBS Shot of the Month Award, in association with The European Tour, Sky Sports and The Daily Telegraph, is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule. The winning shots from each month are entered towards the RBS Shot of the Year Award.
