‘Big Break' Champ Turns to Alpha Technology

CHATSWORTH, Calif. – After thrilling the golfing public in a dramatic win on Golf Channel's hit reality show, "Big Break II", Kip Henley of Crossville, Tenn., entered the high-pressured world of professional golf where a player's success sways on every shot. Today, Henley has turned to technology for a competitive edge, and Alpha Golf is proud to announce that the 44-year-old Big Break II champion has signed an exclusive agreement to play Alpha drivers on the pro tour.

"Kip is a terrific competitor, and we're very excited to provide him with the cutting-edge driver technology that has made Alpha so highly respected among golf professionals," says Jim Yeh, chief engineer and president of Alpha Golf. "Alpha drivers incorporate the highest-grade titanium and steel materials, most advanced forging processes and innovative face engineering to provide wood, iron and putter designs which produce incredible distance and forgiveness."

The crowned champion of the Golf Channel's most-watched show, Henley stepped into the spotlight when he competed against some of amateur golf's greatest scratch players this year and walked away with $10,000 cash, a new Ford 500 and exemptions to the Lake Erie Charity Classic, the Henrico County Open, the LaSalle Bank Open and the Rheem Classic on the Nationwide Tour. At those events, Henley will be playing Alpha Golf's Version 2 (V2) 425cc titanium driver, the winning driver of several World Long Drive Championship titles. The Alpha V2 utilizes a 15-3-3-3 Ti-forged active beta face insert and a deep-face design with maximum coefficient of restitution (COR) for greater forgiveness.

"I test hit every major golf club brand, and the Alpha Version 2 driver performed as good or better than any of them," says Henley, who had his choice of OEM drivers to play on the Nationwide Tour. "Choosing to play Alpha was a no-brainer. Plus, I was very impressed with Mr. Yeh's knowledge of golf club performance and clubhead design. I can't wait to work with him on Alpha's 2006 designs."

For Henley, who began knocking around balls at age five, playing on the professional Tour is the dream of a lifetime. He first shed his amateur status in 1982 when he tried Tour school for the first time. But when money became tight and he became a club pro and has held his Class A status with the PGA of America since 1988. Through the club pro ranks, he earned a spot in the 1997 Club Pro Championship, won the Tennessee State Open twice and was once named Tennessee's Player of the Year. He has also played three times in the PGA Tour's FedEx St. Jude Classic, missing the cut each time, but he has made the cut in several Nationwide Tour events.
