Golf announcers afraid of their own mike!

People put in those positions who are suppose to be objective, suppose to be honest and who are not afraid to call a spade a spade when the situation calls for it are all to often afraid of their own shadow...or should I say voice...might get in trouble for telling us like it is. Instead they sugar coat something so as not to offend a player or to shock the other announcers...leaving them wondering what to say or how to handle it.

There are too many "yes" men who are announcing golf tournaments on television. People who take the easy way out rather then make a judgment call or comment that might offend someone. What else would these people be hired for? It sure as hell isn't giving golf tips anymore. There are a few announcers who I feel do a very good job. They are the ones who are not afraid to "buck the tide" and give an honest appraisal or answer to a particular golf situation. Too many excuses are made when a player misses a shot. It must have been "a bad lie" or "someone must have distracted him." Tour players make mistakes, make bad swings, make bad judgments during a around. It would be refreshing to have more broadcasters call it the way it is and not worry about keeping their jobs and staying "popular" with the players.

I for one think these kinds of announcers do the viewing public a disservice as well as themselves. A lot of people think that watching golf is boring enough. We don't need people who announce golf for a living helping that theory along. Real broadcasting journalism is not having to worry all the time about being politically correct.
