Southwest Golf Media Association tees off

PHOENIX, Ariz. – September 15, 2004 – The Rim Golf Club, Northern Arizona’s premier golf club and community, announced today the introduction of the Southwest Golf Media Association (SWGMA), a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the mutual interests and fellowships among golf writers and other members of the golf media.

“The Rim Golf Club saw a need to bring golf writers together to network in their own backyard,” said Larry Throneburg, vice president of sales and marketing for The Rim Golf Club. “With so many courses in the Southwest, both public and private, we were urged by several golf media to begin this organization to bring the golf media community together for the betterment of the game in the Southwest.”

Founded by The Rim Golf Club, SWGMA is the first organization of its kind in the Southwest, and will work to be a strong partner in promoting the rich golf heritage of the region. Membership in SWGMA is strongly monitored by the founding board led by Cori Kenicer. SWGMA media members will include writers, authors, photographers, TV and radio personalities, columnists and videographers.

Business members will include publicity officials for golf competitions, publications, or organizations who would not otherwise be eligible for regular membership as well as marketing and public relations firms, advertising sales representatives, editorial or administrative employees of publications or broadcast entities who will fulfill the purposes of the Association.

“I am honored to have been asked to serve as president of the board for SWGMA,” said Cori Kenicer. “The mission of this organization is to provide an opportunity for golf media professional within the Southwest region to network amongst their peers and contribute to the golf community. Without The Rim Golf Club, and their generosity in founding SWGMA, the launch of this organization would not be possible.”

SWGMA’s goal is to educate, inform and promote the game of golf as well as educate others on various facets of the golf industry so that there is a better understanding of what each entity brings to the game. Its members facilitate this by creating a network for story ideas and sharing Southwest golf news.

Through regular meetings, SWGMA members will exchange needed information and discuss topics pertinent to the golf world; they will hear from speakers from many avenues to inform members of industry trends and news and, to round out the benefits of membership, an educational panel will hold discussions on associated subjects.
