American Golfers Online (www.AmericanGolfersOnline.com) is bringing a new service to the golf community that promises to revolutionize the way golfers meet and compete. Now you get to take a free test drive. Ed Johnson, president and founder, has identified three primary obstacles that are keeping golfers new and old off the links:
· Difficulty scheduling matches
· Perceived lack of ability (novices afraid to embarrass themselves) and
· Difficulty finding competition.
American Golfers Online strives to help golfers overcome these obstacles. The competitiveness and flexability that AGO offers is a great complement to anyone’s game regardless of ability. In addition, managers of traditional leagues will find AGO an extremely useful tool. Golfers, or managers, can sign up at www.AmericanGolfersOnline.com and choose what type of league they would like to join or create.
Blue Members can use AGO to track scores and standings within their league. Gold Memberships compete for prizes and have use of the site’s classified section in addition to the benefits of the Blue Membership. League Directors are awarded discounts (up to a free Gold Membership ) to coordinate their leagues, and enter the scores for those that do not have access to the internet.
Scoring is calculated using their innovative MS³ scoring system where members compete against the the course slope and their own game. This allows competitive access to the 80 percent of golfers that don’t have a handicap. With the issue of abilty addressd via the new scoring system, the flexibility issue now needed to be addressed.
AGO members have the ability to schedule matches with other members, when, where and with whom, it is most convenient to them. Scores for a given match are then entered via the website by one player, and attested by the other member. Due to the structure of the scoring system, these two players are not competing against each other but against the course.
‘Who wants to play with a buddy and hope he hooks his drive in the drink?’ Johnson asked. ‘This scoring structure puts the competition solely on the individuals own progress and achievement.’
Flexibility was also emphasized when the prize structure was developed. Why does the person who wins the longest drive contest often times wind up with another driver? Prizes are in the form of vouchers that may be used with AGO’s partner sites: Golf Zoo, Golfsmith and CruiseDirect.com.
‘A great deal of effort has been undertaken to ensure our members get the highest value and selection for their prize dollar’ states Keith Mcelhinney AGO’s prize director. ‘We will continue to work with our partners to ensure the value and quality of prizes that our partners offer is unsurpassed.’
In an effort to increase their visability with this new concept, American Golfers Online is offering free Blue memberships for a limited time.
“We have developed an exceptional tool that will increase the amount of competitive golf an individual can play. I think any scholar of the game would agree, competition breeds greater ability’, states Johnson . Does this mean AGO will make you a better golfer? It seems logical, but if not, you’ll sure have fun trying!’
