RALEIGH, N.C. – March 19, 2005 – Each year thousands of children across North Carolina are affected by cancer. The Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic is reaching out to these children and supporting their fight against pediatric cancer, but they cannot do it alone. They need your help. Volunteers and sponsors are needed for the 4th Annual Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic scheduled for Monday, June 6 at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh.

The annual event, which pairs local and national celebrities with children for a day of fun and laughter, will begin at 8 a.m. with a helpful golf clinic. In the three years since its inception, the Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic has raised over $200,000 to fund pediatric cancer research projects at Duke University Medical Center through The V Foundation for Cancer Research. This year, the proceeds from the event will benefit UNC Hospitals.

"We are so grateful for the support and commitment from our sponsors," says Beth Jarvis, Tournament Director. "We are here to raise money for children affected by cancer and help them fight this disease. It is extremely rewarding to see so many different companies, organizations and individuals support our efforts to fund pediatric cancer research."

As part of the Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic, participants will attend both a swim clinic from noon to 2 p.m. at Brier Creek Country Club and a Pairings Party at Jillian's on Sunday, June 5th. 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines will be on hand during the swim clinic to instruct the children on proper swim techniques. Later that evening, participants will attend a Pairings Party at Jillian's in downtown Raleigh. The Pairings Party will feature food, games and fun for all participants, including a silent auction and a raffle.
