SOUTHLAKE, TX. – March 17, 2005 – Long Drivers of America (LDA) has announced it will conduct The Alpha Long Drive Classic in Des Moines on June 1-4, 2005 in conjunction with the Champions Tour's hugely popular Allianz Championship.
Alpha Golf, which designs and manufactures high-performance golf equipment used by many of long drive's top performers, is title sponsor for the LDA event, which features head-to-head competition in two divisions: open and senior (45+).
Participation in the Alpha Long Drive Classic will be restricted to active members of LDA, the organizing and administrative body for the sport of long drive.
Early qualifying and elimination rounds of the Alpha Long Drive Classic will take place at Willow Creek Golf Club in West Des Moines on Wednesday, June 1 through Friday, June 3.
The event finals on June 4 shift to the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City, site of the Allianz Championship, and will unfold immediately following the conclusion of play on Saturday afternoon.
"This affiliation with the Allianz Championship, one of the flagship events on the Champions Tour, represents a major milestone in the evolution of long drive," said Art Sellinger, LDA's owner and chief executive officer. "We get to showcase our sport in front of what will likely be the largest gallery in long drive history. And we can add some energy, excitement and entertainment value to the overall Allianz experience. We think it will be a tremendous fit."
The event marks a return to Iowa for Long Drivers of America. "We staged one of the 2004 Pinnacle LDA Tour events at Willow Creek," said Sellinger, "so we already know that the Des Moines area is a hotbed for golf. We're looking forward to heading back up to America's Heartland."
Supporting sponsors for the Alpha Long Drive Classic include Pinnacle Golf, Lamkin, AccuFLEX and AccuSport.
"We salute Alpha Golf for stepping up and assuming the role of title sponsor," said Sellinger. "Without the support of Jim Yeh and his team at Alpha Golf, we wouldn't have been able to put this event together. Now we have foundation in place for what promises to be an unforgettable experience for LDA members."
