LEWISTON, MI. – March 14, 2005 - Garland Resort, Michigan's only AAA Four-Diamond resort, has announced that it will host the Garland Junior Championship, July 18-20 at the resort in northern Michigan. The 54 hole stroke play tournament is open to all junior boy and girl golfers between 12-18 years old with an established handicap.
"Garland is extremely excited at the prospect of initiating a major national championship for juniors staged on our world class courses, " said Barry Owens, Vice President at Garland. "The Garland Junior Championship will offer boys and girls between 12 and 18 years of age an exceptional opportunity to compete in a premier golf tournament as well as partake in our many resort activities. We expect great things from the competition."
The event will be conducted on the Monarch, Reflections, and Fountain courses designed by Ron Otto. The competition proper is scheduled to start with practice rounds on Monday, July 18 followed by 36 holes on Tuesday, July 19. The final 18 holes will be played on Wednesday, July 20. A cookout and pairing party will kickoff the tournament on Monday. The individual overall gross boy's and girls champions will be awarded the Ron Otto Trophy.
The $225 entry fee covers all three rounds of the 'no-cut' event as well as a practice round, range balls, awards and social functions.
