GSGA competitions advisory entries now open for Georgia Senior Challenge

MARIETTA, Ga. – March 12, 2005 – Entries are now being accepted for the 2nd Annual Georgia Senior Challenge, which takes place May 10-12 at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton. This event is open to male amateur golfers age 55 and up as of May 10, who have USGA handicap indexes of 3.0 or above, are GSGA members and Georgia residents.

The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play over three days. The field will be flighted and the event will use the Stableford scoring system. Last year, Joe Ingram of Gainesville tallied 111 points over the three-day period to win the inaugural Senior Challenge which took place at Bentwater Golf Club in Acworth.

Qualified players may enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration quick link. Paper entries are available by request and may also be downloaded as a PDF file via the GSGA website. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, April 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Also, entries will be closing on March 16 for the Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship, which takes place May 20-22 at Coosa Country Club in Rome. This event is open to male amateur golfers age 25 and up as of May 20 who are GSGA members and Georgia residents.

The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. Savannah's Doug Hanzel strung together rounds of 69-71-71 to capture last year's event by two strokes at Jennings Mill Country Club in Bogart.

Entry periods are also currently open for the Georgia Women's Match Play Championship (through March 23) and the Georgia Four-Ball Championship (through March 30).
