March 12, 2005 – Nickent's new Pipe Putter tested as the # 1 alignment putter in two separate independent tests last week. Two of the world's leading golf-club testing companies, Rankmark and GolfTest USA, did a direct comparison test with the Pipe Putter, the Odyssey 2-Ball and the Ping Craz-E putters to confirm which of the putters offered the best alignment system.
In both tests consumers voted that the Pipe Putter's 3-dimesional alignment capabilities far outweighed the benefits of the 2-Ball and the Craz-E. In Rankmark's independent analysis, tester after tester found the Pipe to have better alignment, beating the 2-Ball and Craz-E in accuracy tests from both 10 and 20 feet. It was the first time in Rankmark's history that a putter maintained the same exact precision from both 10 and 20 feet. GolfTest USA found the Pipe to be dominant by an even wider margin, with 4 out of 5 golfers saying Pipe offers better alignment characteristics than the Odyssey 2-Ball putter.
"It works so well that it is hard to believe," said Nickent Director of Tour Operations Josh Trivett. "The PGA Tour players have been doing a lot of talking about the opportunities that a 3-dimensional alignment aide offers. I have a long list of Tour players that want a Pipe as soon as it is available."
The Pipe putter was designed with a cylinder pipe shape on the top of the club head to provide a 3-dimesional visual readout of exactly where the putter is lined up. Putters made to help alignment in the past offered only one-dimensional aiming. What sets Nickent's new Pipe putter apart is a distinctive cylinder on top of the club head, a solid, three-dimensional visual aid that shows precisely where the putter is aimed at address from any position and any distance on the green. The independent tests confirmed that the three-dimensional Pipe provides the added visualization assistance that's especially critical to sink longer putts.
"The Pipe has no visual clutter," said Nickent CEO Michael Lee. "Our concept was to eliminate all unnecessary design elements, so that the only thing the Pipe allows your eye to do is line the ball up correctly."
The benefits of the Pipe Putter are not purely visual. The Pipe's construction features a light polymer centerpiece surrounded by heavier steel, pushing additional weight to the perimeter of the clubhead. A heavy plug in the rear of the pipe section accounts for 15% of the weight of the putter, producing a very high moment of inertia and an extremely low center of gravity. This mixture of minimized backspin and resistance to twisting on miss-hits creates a true roll that can only be accomplished by an expanded mallet that has maximum ground-level weighting. The low CG keeps the clubhead stable throughout the swing, encouraging a pendulum stroke.
