Golfweek names Wintonbury Hills Connecticut’s Best Course

BLOOMFIELD, Connecticut – The Town of Bloomfield and Billy Casper Golf (“BCG”) has announced that Wintonbury Hills Golf Course has been named Connecticut’s No. 1 facility by Golfweek in the magazine’s 10th annual, state-by-state ranking of “America’s Best Courses.”

This distinction marks the second consecutive year that Wintonbury Hills has been ranked the state’s top facility, solidifying its position among the elite layouts in America. The only Pete Dye design in New England, Wintonbury Hills was selected for distinction from the state’s roughly 200 public courses.

Golfweek, which has a readership of more than 400,000, perennially sends roughly 300 “America’s Best” raters in search of notable places the public can play. The raters examine overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural setting, greens, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria.

“All of the honors we’ve received to date have been tremendous, but the Golfweek ranking is really something special,” says Director of Golf Doug Juhasz. “To be recognized as the state’s best course two years running is a testament to our facilities, services and staff.”

Located only 15 minutes from Hartford, in the heart of Connecticut’s beautiful hill country, the municipally-owned course has also been named to GOLF magazine’s nationwide list of “The Top 10 New Courses You Can Play”, selected as the best new public course in the region by The New England Journal of Golf, and named one of the “Top 10 New Courses in America” by Celebrated Living, the premium-class in-flight publication of American Airlines.

A par-70, 18 hole championship layout, Wintonbury Hills features well-thought-out green complexes, strategic bunkering and nearly 100 feet of elevation change. The course offers a blend of links style holes and a forested look that typifies golf in the Northeast.
