March 2, 2005 – An extraordinary array of golf shots will be on display when the World Golf Trickshot Championship is launched at April’s London Golf Show.
The World Golf Trickshot Championship is being held at Celtic Manor, Wales - home to the 2010 Ryder Cup - on June 6 and will provide the opportunity to witness some stunning shots courtesy of the world’s top golf tricksters.
Most of the world’s top trick-shot exponents will be at the championship – and now also at the London Golf Show.
Extraordinary shots will be the dish of the day – tricks such as the ‘scissorhands’, which involves swinging a club in each hand while hitting continuously a row of 30 balls; hitting three balls at once; driving from a range of extreme tees; driving while sitting on a stool or kneeling; using 2m-long drivers and, of course, audience participation shots.
All those involved are professional trick-shot artists - Jeremy Dale, David Edwards, Geoff Swain, Peter Cane, Dean Davis, Paul Barrington, John Wraith, Kevin Compare and David Haines – and have perfected their art. Their tricks should not be tried at home…
Their shows have been seen at many corporate and professional tour events across the world, but now there’s a chance to see them all together under one roof.
Paul Smith, managing director of the World Golf Trickshot Championship, said: “There’s plenty for everybody to see at the show, but I hope we can bring something a little different.
“These guys try to relate to what the average golfer does - then hit shots that look entirely improbable. They are a little bit special.
“It’s all about entertainment. And if non-golfers enjoy what the guys do in the trick shot show then it might encourage newcomers to take up the sport.”
Andy Barwell, the London Golf Show’s marketing director, said: “These guys are absolutely amazing. Their ability to hit a golf ball with anything and from any position is simply stunning. Their display is unique in content and style.
“The incredible thing is many of the tricks can actually help improve your golf game. They’re all real showmen and are sure to leave the crowds at the show shouting for more.”
Docklands’ ExCel Centre plays host to everything the golfing world has to offer on April 21-24 when the London Golf Show hits the capital.
Visitors will be able to take advantage of great show prices on top brand golf equipment, meet with the pros, get advice, see and buy the latest in golf fashion and explore a whole world of golfing destinations and holidays – all in the centre of London.
In addition there will be fantastic prizes - including a car and a five-star holiday - up for grabs in various interactive competitions and events, ranging from a hole-in-one competition on a floating green in the Victoria Docks, to a putting competition on the indoor arena.
And it is already pulling in the star names with DJ Spoony, BBC radio’s voice of golf Tony Adamson, Sir Trevor Brooking and dozens more from stage and screen all putting in an appearance.
