NEW DELHI – March 1, 2005 – Amby Valley PGAI Tour veterans stole the show at the pro-am event of the Sir Padampat Singhania Open 2005 played at the par-72, Noida Golf Course near the Indian capital on Sunday. Mohd. Islam of Patna, the opening round leader at the main event took home a consolation prize for having missed out on winning the tournament when he led his team of Raj Bhargava, Maj. Gen. MMR Narang and Raj K Bhartia to a fine pro-am win at a score of 216.
Rohtas Singh, winner of over 120 tournaments on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour accompanied by Ashok Malik and Col. KM Jha, finished second at 218 while, two-time Indian Open winner Ali Sher, who has been playing alongside Islam and Rohtas for over two decades now led his team of Col. Swarup Kewalramani, Comd. Thakur and Maj. Vinod Krishna to a third place finish at 219.
The prizes were given away jointly by Govind Hari Singhania – Director, JK Organisation, Col. SK Sinha – General Manager Operations, Amby Valley and Wg. Cdr. Anoop Singh – Secretary, Noida Golf Course at a prize distribution ceremony held immediately after the event.
Islam as the professional in the winning team pocketed Rs 5,000, while Rohtas and Ali Sher earned Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. While the senior pros basked in the limelight, a share of it was whisked away by a couple of youngsters with Jaiveer Virk and Harinder Gupta getting to share Rs 3,000 for tying for the ‘Best Individual Score by a
Professional’.
Among the other interesting contests, Col. Ravi Rana bagged the ‘Closest to the Pin’ prize on hole # 3, while the ‘Longest Drive’ on hole # 9 was carded by Rohit Singh, son of the legendary Rohtas. The ‘Straightest Drive’ on hole # 14 was returned by Ms. Renu Singh while SS Khera stole the show on the ‘Monster Putt’ on hole # 18.
The pro-am was played on a Stableford Format.
