DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA – Feb. 28, 2005 – It's amazing that an outerwear company could become a golf shop's biggest seller, but that is exactly what Category 5 has done. By combining attractive styling with a truly effective product, Category 5 offers an alternative to other brands.
"I've had a lot of experience with outerwear through the years," said Steve Stensland, head professional at Vashon Island Golf & Country Club in Vashon Island, Washington, "but Category 5 is absolutely the best. It is lightweight (11 ounces for the entire set). The water comes right off the suit like it's not even there. It's so lightweight that one member said he felt like he was nude when he wore it."
Category 5 is the lightest waterproof, windproof, breathable outerwear on earth. The jacket and pants combined weigh just 11 ounces compared to many other jackets on the market that weigh in excess of 40 ounces alone.
Since introducing its product in the US in August 2003, Category 5 has posted some impressive results. Currently, 126 players are wearing the outerwear on the LPGA Tour and the product is being sold at 30 of the most prestigious green grass pro shops in the country including Sahalee, Aronomink and Castle Pines to name a few.
"The real secret," said Category 5 COO and VP of Sales and Marketing Elizabeth Versace, "is our fabric. It is a revolutionary micro fiber. A single strand is thinner than a human hair. If you were to take a strand long enough to reach from the bottom to the top of Mt. Everest, it would fit in a teaspoon and weigh less than one tenth of an ounce."
It's this light mass that sets Category 5 apart from the competition.
"The fabric is naturally waterproof," said Versace. "The molecular structure of the fabric allows sweat to escape, but prevents water from entering. Our fabric is naturally waterproof and breathable. Our fabric is thinner than a human hair. Thus, we can weave the fabric 2000 threads per square centimeter. That makes it windproof. Together, the fabric is lightweight, strong, waterproof, windproof and breathable."
"There's a difference between body heat and body sweat," Versace explained. "Our garment retains body heat when it's cold. As you heat up and sweat, the sweat will escape. This assures a garment that will maintain a uniform body temperature in all conditions. If you look carefully at the claims of our competition, most products are merely water resistant, as opposed to waterproof."
