AVON, Colorado – Feb 28, 2005 – Nationally distributed television program Golf Life visited Phoenix, Arizona producing a feature on The Raven at South Mountain. The golf lifestyle program tours the course with the Raven’s Ryan Barmore and Golf Life host Jay Golden. As the two play shots around the course the viewer is provided information about the golf course strategy and traveling to the Phoenix area.
The 12 minute video feature highlights the architectural elements created by Raven at South Mountain designers David Graham and Gary Panks. The course is unique to the desert terrain, as the home of over 6000 Georgia Pines. This element brings a Midwestern flair, with the contrast of native Arizona plants, cactus and wildlife. The course sits against the brilliant green landscape of South Mountain, particularly magnificent due to this season’s record precipitation. Golf Life Executive Producer, Michael Billingsley was particularly impressed with the scenic setting, “We couldn’t have picked a better time to shoot The Raven at South Mountain, and with all the rain The Raven is in beautiful condition”
This current episode of Golf can be seen on FSN West/West2, FSN Arizona, FSN Bay Area, FSN Rocky Mountain, Comcast Sports Net Chicago, Comcast Sports Net Detroit, Comcast Sports Southeast, Cox Sports Kansas, Cox Sports New Orleans, Sun Sports and on America One affiliate stations across the US. Raven at South Mountain Director of Sales Ryan Barmore comments on the production, “The folks at Action Television handled the production with the most professionalism I’ve ever witnessed from a television crew. We are very happy with the reach of the television program and will be using the video segment on DVD and the web to market our group business.”
The show’s success has been attributed to the entertaining way the course features are presented along with the informative tip segments. Executive Producer Michael Billingsley states, “The show has a style and character of its own. Unlike many other shows that have come and gone, Golf Life keeps growing in popularity. It’s our quality and content that gets us great airtimes and additional households each year. Plus we fill a golf void for those that don’t get the Golf Channel, but watch other sports networks like Fox.”
The show travels around the US looking for unique and entertaining aspects to the golf lifestyle. Each episode includes a course feature that highlight how the locations fit into an individuals personal Golf Life. Billingsley added “we shoot 20 shows a year, so finding these types of courses takes time. The exposure we give to a development or resort is very unique, so we are looking for the right golf properties to work with.” The show producers are always willing to review a course for inclusion in the series.
In an effort to complete the stay and play story for South Mountain, Golf Life worked with a South Phoenix icon, The Wyndam Buttes. This well known resort is just minutes from The Raven at South Mountain and completes the destination story for the viewer. Billingsley adds, “the resort feature helps the viewer plan a trip and a place like The Wyndham Buttes makes you want to schedule a Phoenix vacation right away, but we ask that they wait until the end of the show.”
