Gary Player visits The Club at TwinEagles

Feb. 25, 2005 – Earlier this month, Gary Player joined officials from TwinEagles and The Bonita Bay Group to tour the site of The Aerie, the 18-hole championship golf course Player is designing for The Club at TwinEagles. The Black Knight also held court with the media and treated club members to a private exhibition of the skills that propelled him to 163 career wins. Player also shared the design plans for The Aerie, the second championship course at TwinEagles, which will be created to The Bonita Bay Group’s unwavering environmental standards.

“We’re going to use a form of bunkering, which we’ve used on a course in South Africa as well as Singapore,” Player said. “They are low maintenance, extraordinarily beautiful, and most importantly, they are consistent with The Bonita Bay Group’s commitment to the environment.”

The Bonita Bay Group is an active participant in Audubon International’s Signature Sanctuary program for golf courses, and has more holes of golf certified that any other company in the world. TwinEagles’ first course, The Talon, co-designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II, is certified as a Signature Sanctuary and received a top award in 2003 from the Council for Sustainable Florida – factors Gary Player said were important to him in teaming up with The Group.

The Aerie, expected to be open for play in the fourth quarter of 2005, will be woven into Grand Arbors, the new second phase of TwinEagles, offering coach homes, villas and single-family homes along with gardens, arbors and nature trails. Player said the course will appeal to both beginners and champions, and will complement The Talon, a course he has played annually since 2002, when The ACE Group Classic moved to The Club at TwinEagles.

Named to Golf & Travel magazine’s list of the 12 Most Intriguing Golf Communities in America, TwinEagles is designed with an abundance of natural areas. Each of the homes in The Estates is situated to create an extraordinary sense of privacy with view corridors unobstructed by other homes and lot sizes ranging from one-half to two acres. Homes in Grand Arbors will overlook lakes, nature preserves and the Gary Player-designed course.

“This will be a golf course for all seasons – a stage for the entire world to play golf irrespective of their age or playing ability,” Gary Player added before treating members to an exhibition on the practice tee and joining them for a private reception.
