Golf fever heightens with Sir Padampat Singhania Open

NEW DELHI – Feb. 23, 2005 – Golf fever is all set to grip the National Capital Region with the Sir Padampat Singhania Open, the 15th leg of the Amby Valley PGAI Tour, which tees off at the par-72, Noida Golf Course, on the outskirts of the Indian capital, on Wednesday.

The tournament, which offers Rs 10-lakhs in prize money will witness the winner take home a whopping Rs 1,62,000. The event, sponsored by The Sir Padampat Sports Academy, will be managed by the Delhi based Tiger Sports Marketing.

The Sir Padampat Singhania Open will mark the return of the Northern Swing of the Amby Valley PGAI Tour. The initial leg of the Northern Swing featured the Noida Open and the HT Pro-Golf in October 2004.

“We are thrilled to sponsor the seventh edition of the Sir Padampat Singhania Open,” said Shri Govind Hari Singhania - Director, JK Organisation. “Through the Sir Padampat Sports Academy, we aim to provide sportsmen from all over the country with a platform to excel and do the tri-colour proud. The Sir Padampat Singhania Open is a step in that very direction. This tournament has been a terrific success over the past several years and we are confident that this year will be no exception,” he added.

“The Sir Padampat Sports Academy has been one of the greatest supporters of Indian golf,” said Digraj Singh, Director, Tiger Sports Marketing. “The Academy has provided golf lovers in the National Capital Region with a number of memorable moments by sponsoring this event. The Sir Padampat Singhania Open 2005 has some of the best golfers in India participating and combined with the extremely challenging Noida Golf Course will showcase some really world class golf over the next four days,” he added.

“I am keenly looking forward to the Sir Padampat Singhania Open,” said twice Amby Valley PGAI Tour Money List winner, Vijay Kumar. “I aim to finish the season atop the Money List and a win here will set me up for that target,” added the golfer, who currently tallies Rs 7,57,400 in 13 completed events.

The Noida Golf Course is in prime condition with strategically placed bunkers and water bodies dotting tree-lined fairways. The course calls for accurate shot planning and execution, which, tested by the gusty February winds will certainly add to the levels of excitement.
