MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Feb. 23, 2005 – Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club located in Mission Viejo, Calif., has been named "Ten Best New Public/Resort Courses" for 2004 by Travel and Leisure Golf Magazine in their January/February issue.
"It is truly an honor to receive this national recognition, especially with the number of new courses being developed," said Matthew Donovan, the club's general manager. "From the day it opened, Arroyo Trabuco has redefined the golfing experience in Southern California and we are proud to be able to share that with the golfers across the country."
Arroyo Trabuco opened July 1 to rave reviews from both the media and the golfing public, providing a memorable experience that rivals the finest high-end clubs. With appeal to golfers of all skill levels, the course plays over the high grassland mountains, through the lower rolling plains, and along the creek. It is carefully routed to take advantage of beauty, aesthetics and strategy of the Trabuco creek.
"I am very excited that Arroyo Trabuco has been recognized as a fun and exciting place to play golf," said co-designer and PGA Tour professional Tom Lehman. "Hopefully the course will get better and better in time and golfers of all levels can enjoy themselves for many years to come."
Lehman was joined by noted golf course architect, Casey O'Callaghan, who is based in Newport Beach, to build this 18-hole championship golf course. The par 72, 7,011-yard layout is a premiere daily fee, public golf facility and has been designed with five sets of tees per hole, playing from 5,045 to 7,011 yards. Arroyo Trabuco is one of a handful of courses in Southern California with no homes on the golf course. The facility has a park-like environmental setting traversing Trabuco Creek and the Ladera Open Space Reserve. Additionally, as part of the development of the course, over 200-acres of open space were dedicated to the County of Orange for an extension of O'Neill Regional Park.
Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club was developed and is owned by DMB San Juan Golf Associates, LLC. The company was formed in 2000 with a partnership between DMB Consolidated Holdings, Scottsdale, Arizona and members of the O'Neill/Moiso family and other non-family associates. Donovan Bros. Golf, LLC, manages the club.
