Toyota/Kraft Nabisco announce $1 million hole-in-one tourney

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Feb. 14, 2005 – Eleven years and thousands of golfers later, Toyota and Kraft Nabisco Championship are hoping this is the year one lucky player hits a hole-in-one and walks away with their share of $1 million.

Amateurs everywhere will once again have a shot at the big prize when the 2005 Toyota/Kraft Nabisco Championship $1 Million Hole-in-One Contest gets underway next month. Set for March 12-20, the annual contest is also one of United Way of the Desert's largest fundraisers. Daily qualifying rounds for the contest start on Saturday, March 12, and run through Sunday, March 20, at College Golf Center in Palm Desert, Calif., and Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Springs, Calif.

Golf equipment, airline tickets and gift certificates, as well as other prizes, will be awarded to the amateurs closest to the pin (a 90-yard shot) each qualifying day. The top two qualifiers from each site each day will move on to the semi-finals on March 20 at 4 p.m. at College Golf Center.

The top 10 golfers closest to the pin in the semi-finals will advance to the finals competition on Monday, March 21, scheduled for 4 p.m. at the 18th hole of the Arnold Palmer Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Each finalist will be paired with an LPGA Tour professional to compete as a team for the $1 million prize.

In addition, the amateur closest to the pin during the finals will win a new Toyota Avalon. The tournament's annual Celebrity Hole-in-One Contest for Charity will tee off just prior to the amateur/pro contest. Both events are free to the public.

According to Tamra Borson, marketing and advertising manager for the Kraft Nabisco Championship, "We really hope this is the magic year for the $1 million pay-out.

"Every year the contest gets bigger and bigger, so the odds are growing that someone will hit a hole-in-one during the finals competition. In the meantime, we have the opportunity to support the United Way of the Desert and all the outstanding work they do in the Coachella Valley. We encourage everyone, regardless of their playing ability, to take a swing for an outstanding cause - and the chance to win $1 million and a new Toyota."

United Way receives a portion of the proceeds from the sale of golf balls at College Golf Center and Tahquitz Creek. Golf balls will be available for $8 for five balls, $15 for 10 balls, $20 for 15 balls or $45 for 50 balls. The United Way will also receive $100,000 if anyone makes a hole-in-one during the finals. The official rules for the contest will be posted at both qualifying locations and on the Kraft Nabisco Championship Web site at www.KNCGOLF.com.

The finals competition for the hole-in-one contest kicks off Tournament Week for the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which is scheduled for March 21-27. Advance tickets to the 2005 Kraft Nabisco Championship are now available through the tournament Web site or by calling 760/324-4546.
