Nike Golf dominance on the PGA Tour continues as Carl Pettersson becomes the 7th Nike Golf athlete to win in 2008, bringing the number of PGA Tour wins by Nike Golf athletes to 11. A hometown favorite in North Carolina, Pettersson performed a near-perfect display of ballstriking all week using his Nike Golf equipment. In the second round, Pettersson posted a tournament record nine-under-par score of 61, which also helped him to match the PGA Tour’s 36-hole record 15-under-par score of 125. Another major highlight was Pettersson’s two eagles on the 5th hole Thursday and Saturday.
Assisting Pettersson to his 25 birdies and two eagles were his pin-seeking iron shots with his Nike Pro Combo Tour irons. He also took advantage of the winningest driver and ball combination on Tour by playing with the Nike SQ Sumo Tour driver and Nike ONE Platinum ball. Pettersson finished this week T14 in driving accuracy as well as T14 in Greens in Regulation. Rounding out Pettersson’s Nike Golf arsenal are three Nike Forged wedges and Nike Golf Tour apparel and footwear.
Nike Golf maintains its lead in driver, irons and wedge wins. The combination of the SQ family of drivers and Nike ONE Ball is the winningest combination on Tour. Nike Golf has 7 athletes in the top 20 on the FedEx Cup Standings: Tiger Woods (1), Anthony Kim (5), Stewart Cink (6), Justin Leonard (8), Carl Pettersson (13), KJ Choi (17) and Trevor Immelman (20).
