Parker, Cristillo, Smith secure top spots in Winter Series event

TAMPA, Fla. – Feb. 10, 2005 – Robert Parker won the 40-54 age division in the Winter Series event at Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary as Joseph Cristillo and Chuck Smith secured the top spot in their respective age divisions.

After a 1 hour and 15 minute fog delay, Robert Parker, of Sanford, continued to lead the 40-54 age division. Combined with his first round score of 3-under par 68, Parker, the Florida State Public Links Champion, shot a 75 for a 143 total. Tying for second was Cap Caponi, from Orlando, and Robbie Dew, of Palm Beach Gardens, who each recorded a two-round total of 145. Caponi shot a 74-71 as Dew logged a 76 in the first round and a 69 in the second round with an eagle on the 12th hole.

Joseph Cristillo, of Crystal River, a two-time Florida State Senior Champion, captured the 55-64 age division shooting a 70-68-138. Cristillo won the Senior Championship in 2000 and 2002. Doug Jackson, of Cape Canaveral, placed second with scores of 71-74-145 while Kim Schwencke, of Temple Terrace, jumped to third place shooting a 74-73-147.

In the 65 and over age division, Chuck Smith, from Naples, led the division after shooting his age, 67, in the first round. Smith, the 1995 Florida State Senior Champion, fired an even par 71 in the final round to take the title with a 138 total. Ray Darmstadt, of Cocoa Beach, finished in second recording a 76-72-148 and Tom Matey, of Orlando, shot a pair of 75’s to place third.

The Winter Series events include eight competitions, five individual events and three four-ball events. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events who normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
