Ypsilon Golf Challenge by Alex Cejka agrees to three-year deal

The Ypsilon Golf Challenge from August 21-24 will now be officially supported by the Czech Republic's favourite golfing son, Alex Cejka.

As part of a three-year agreement, the €180,000 Ypsilon Golf Challenge by Alex Cejka will be staged at Ypsilon Golf Resort in Liberec, Czech Republic, until at least 2010.

Four-time European Tour winner Cejka was born in the Czech Republic, but fled the country as a refugee aged nine. He travelled with his father to Yugoslavia, Italy and Switzerland before settling in Munich, but now divides his time between Las Vegas and Prague, where he still
owns a home.

Cejka said: "I am proud to support the Ypsilon Golf Challenge by Alex Cejka, which will mean a lot for professional golf in the Czech Republic. It has been ten years since the Challenge Tour came to the Czech Republic, and this tournament gives young Czech professionals a great chance to make a name for themselves and perhaps progress onto The European Tour. I wish all the players well, and look forward to some low scoring by some of the finest young golfers in the world."

The Challenge Tour last visited the Czech Republic in 1998, when European Tour Member Stephen Gallacher of Scotland won the inaugural KB Golf Challenge.

The Ypsilon Golf Resort is located near the Fojtka Dam of Liberec. Designed by Englishman Keith Preston, the 6,102 metre championship course was voted "Golf Course of the Year 2006" by Czech Golf Digest.
