Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course & Restaurant celebrates 40 years

STATELINE, Nev. -- Forty years of historic play, PGA Championships, and a thousand stunning sunsets have made Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course & Restaurant the unique creation it is today. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, this incomparable golfing sanctuary is committed to maintaining and improving upon this long-held tradition of excellence.

Coming west in 1896, the Park Family established Edgewood along the south shore of Lake Tahoe. The overwhelming beauty that enchanted them still astounds visitors and locals alike. Today, after more than a hundred years, the Park family still owns Edgewood.

Located more than six thousand feet above sea level, Edgewood Golf Course is simple, elegant, and a pleasure to play. Opening in 1968 and designed by George Fazio, a seasoned golf professional who played with Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan, this classic par-72 measures an impressive 7,445 yards, and has always amazed visitors with its beauty, inventiveness, and the way it takes advantage of the surrounding environment. Towering pines split fairways in half, sandy beaches jut in from the lake, and bubbling brooks flow up, down, and through nearly every hole. The final three holes put an exclamation mark on the course, with the 591-yard 18th hole recently being named one of Golf Magazine's Top 500 Holes in the World. And over the last forty years, Tom Fazio, George's nephew and one of the great minds in golf course design, has been the only person allowed to improve, upgrade, and tweak the original design, making Edgewood the model for consistently high-level play.

"The site is one of the most beautiful in the United States," wrote Tom Fazio, in his book Golf Course Designs. "The elevations and contours of the Tahoe site, together with the tall conifers, the wide lake, and the snow-capped mountains, provide a tremendous environment for golf… [The Parks] are committed to continuing those same standards of quality that have made Edgewood Tahoe a popular, year-round destination. It's a wonderful place, and no matter when I go there, I never tire of that magnificent setting."

"The changes Tom Fazio has made over the years have established us as one of the elite golf courses in this country," said Randy Fox, Head Golf Professional at Edgewood. "Edgewood has always offered a superior golf experience, but I think each year it gets better. We are proud to be celebrating our 40th anniversary, and we look forward to another great forty years."

Open from late-Spring to Fall, Edgewood boasts a long and storied history. It became the first golf course in the state of Nevada to host a U.S.G.A. event with the 1980 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Soon after, Edgewood hosted the 6th Annual U.S. Senior Open in 1985, the first Senior Open to be televised, at that time on an unknown sports network called ESPN. For the last sixteen years, the course has been home to the annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, broadcast on NBC Sports and a favorite on the celebrity circuit, featuring players like Charles Barkeley, Don Cheadle, Stone Phillips, Lou Holtz, John Elway, Jim McMahon, Ray Romano, and Michael Jordan.

With any great golf course comes a great bar. Brooks' Bar & Deck is located right off the final green. After its recent major renovation, Brooks' has taken its place as a premier post-play watering hole and was just named one of Golf Digest's "Best 19th Holes in America" in 2008. While the architecture and entrées could be mistaken for those of a fine restaurant, Brooks is in essence a luxury sports bar. It boasts quality local beers and a variety of cocktails. The many TVs are tuned into the game, and the comfortable deck outside overlooks the driving range and the 18th green with the best view at sundown.

The last forty years have also established Edgewood Restaurant as one of the premier fine dining establishments in South Lake Tahoe. Executive Chef Frank Stagnero has created a divine menu of adventurous appetizers and fulfilling entrees. Year after year, he has crafted new and exciting menus to keep the community coming back. And of course, with its open dining room overlooking the deep blue of Lake Tahoe, this has been the ideal spot for important events such as engagements, weddings, anniversaries and the like. Edgewood has a long tradition of being the premier special event venue in the area, with people flying from the world over to enjoy its stunning views and unparalleled service.

"Forty years is a momentous occasion for us," said Bobby King, general manager of food & beverage at Edgewood. "Each and every year we get more people who discover us, and once they do, they always come back, whether for a wedding, a big party, or simply to enjoy our great restaurant. That's the rich appeal of Edgewood."

On the southern shore of Lake Tahoe, Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and Restaurant offers a distinctive and exceptional golf and dining experience. Edgewood is home of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship and conveniently located within blocks of the major South Lake Tahoe resorts and casinos. Edgewood Restaurant delivers fine dining fare with an unequaled view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the beautiful shoreline of Lake Tahoe.
