John Daly is joining the WorldGolf.com Network as a featured LasVegasGolf.com blogger. Okay, not that John Daly.
This John Daly is no unknown either, though. You might know him as the longtime host of "RealTV," a video magazine show produced by Paramount that drew 4 million viewers a night at its peak. But John Daly is also an experienced journalist, political blogger and author of the book, "Truth: The No BS Guide To Navigating A Media-Biased World."
Now he's bringing his unique perspective to the world of golf. Daly describes himself as a 6.9 handicapper, but his 18 years as a Las Vegas resident and the fact he's "played every golf course in town, even Shadow Creek and The Wynn," will inform his blog. Daly will take readers along through his writing as he plays golf with fellow celebrities and interesting characters.
"You might read a posting about a local business person or even a well-known celebrity," Daly wrote in his introductory post at The Daly Golf Show blog. "You will also hear about my knucklehead friends: Jake The Weasel; Coach Sal; and King Zog. And you will also hear from Joey Bozek, the Iraqi War veteran who lost both legs and an arm in an attack and is back playing golf, shooting in the 90s.
"Some of the golf celebrities include my long-time friend John O'Hurley, recent star of 'Spamalot' at The Wynn; he hosted me at The Wynn course. You'll also be reading about my golf round with Gary Mule Deer, comedian and singer, who enjoyed a little fishing while we played Siena Golf Club. Like Gary, a lot of comic friends want to hit the little white ball between gigs."
Daly began his career as a newspaper reporter at the Norwich (CT) Bulletin and the New London (CT) Day. He soon moved into broadcast journalism and became known for his passion and commitment to the story. During a stint as a TV reporter in New Bern, N.C. at WCTI-TV 12 early in his career, Daly was arrested while conducting an investigative piece on pay being illegally withheld from garment workers (the case was dropped against Daly and the workers received their back pay because of his story).
Daly also worked at TV stations in Providence and Hartford before being hired by KTNV-TV 13 in Las Vegas in 1990 as the main anchor and managing editor. He oversaw two shows that won regional Emmy Awards and regional Associated Press awards for top newscasts.
Of course, Daly also won the Frank Sinatra Shoot-Out (a celebrity golf event broadcast on The Golf Channel) playing with supermodel Beverly Johnson. His reach expanded farther when BNY Mellon Wealth Management hired Daly as a vice president of business development for Southern Nevada in late 2007, making this dedicated journalist-author-golfer an officer at one of the world's leading global asset management companies.
Daly will touch on all these areas in his LasVegasGolf.com blog. He'll even invite readers to take golf trips with him in special travel packages.
"There aren't a lot of golfers out there who know Las Vegas more than John Daly," said Mark Nessmith, Editor & Chief Operating Officer of the WorldGolf.com Network. "We're excited that John will be bringing our readers his insight and tales of golf and more in Sin City."
