CVS Caremark Charity Classic welcomes Rocco Mediate to field

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Coming off a thrilling, 91-hole U.S. Open second place finish, Rocco Mediate will play in the CVS Caremark Charity Classic June 22-24 at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I. Mediate will replace Boo Weekley, who withdrew late Monday for personal reasons.

The CVS Caremark Charity Classic will host breakout stars from three of the top tournaments this season including Mediate, who played remarkably this past weekend at Torrey Pines, Paul Goydos, who finished second at the 2008 The Players Championship and Brandt Snedeker, who placed second at the Masters. Mediate, the 2003 CVS Caremark Charity Classic champion, will be paired with Snedeker.

“We congratulate Rocco for his outstanding performance at the U.S. Open and are pleased to welcome him back to the CVS Caremark Charity Classic,” said Eileen Howard Dunn, Tournament Chairman of the CVS Caremark Charity Classic. “Rocco was a fan favorite during his first appearance in 2003, so we look forward to his return visit to help raise money for the many worthy charities our tournament supports.”

The CVS Caremark Charity Classic’s notable 20-player field has won a combined 10 majors and earned 129 total victories. Other golfers taking to the course for the prestigious tournament include tournament co-hosts Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade, Nick Faldo, Davis Love III, Nick Price, Camilo Villegas, Justin Rose, Charles Howell III, J.J. Henry, Stewart Cink, Bubba Watson, Peter Jacobsen, Dana Quigley, Tim Herron, Brett Quigley, Laura Diaz and Nicole Castrale.

Tournament week begins with the Pepsi Pro-Am on Sunday, June 22 followed by the two-day tournament Monday, June 23 -Tuesday, June, 24 at the Rhode Island Country Club.
Participants will be competing for a purse of $1.55 million. Tickets for the CVS Caremark Charity Classic are available free through a special promotion at CVS/pharmacy stores in Rhode Island as well as select locations in Massachusetts.
