DECATUR, Ill. -- Vicky Hurst is the winner of the 2008 Michelob Ultra Duramed
FUTURES Players Championship, Co-Director Kara Huss announced today.
Just four days shy of her 18th birthday, the Florida native secured her
second first-place finish of the season, earning $16,100 for the win and a
sponsor's exemption to play in the 2008 LPGA State Farm Classic, July 17-20
in Springfield, Illinois.
"This was a very exciting tournament and we had the opportunity to watch
some incredibly talented ladies play," Huss said. "I want to congratulate
Vicky on her win. Watching her throughout this tournament, I'm confident
she will have a successful career in the LPGA."
Hurst finished eight under par for the 72-hole tournament. Sarah-Jane
Kenyon of Australia finished second at four under and Sarah Brown of Arizona
and M.J. Hur of South Korea tied for third at three under par. The purse for
this event was $115,000, the largest in the history of the Tournament as well
as the regular-season Duramed FUTURES Tour.
More than 144 of the most talented, up-and-coming women in golf from more
than 30 countries around the world took part in the 24th Michelob Ultra
Duramed FUTURES Players Championship which was played at Hickory Point
Golf Course in Decatur, IL.
Hurst's career accomplishments include:
• Competed in two U.S. Women's Open Championships (2006, 2007)
• Named the 2008 AJGA Rolex Player of the Year
• Two-time Rolex Junior First-Team All-American selection
• Ranked No. 1 in the Polo Golf Rankings after three AJGA victories
and eight top-10 finishes in 2007
• Was a U.S. Open qualifier and advanced to the round of 16 at the
U.S. Women's Amateur
• Won The PING Invitational by five strokes, the last event on the
AJGA calendar in 2007.
• Earned berths in 2007 for the Canon Cup East Team and PING Junior
Solheim U.S. Cup Team
• Graced the cover of Golfweek prior to the Duramed FUTURES Tour
season debut
-The 2009 Michelob Ultra Duramed FUTURES Players Championship will be held
June 8-14, marking the 25th anniversary of the Tournament.
