Feb. 2, 2005 – European Tour Members Peter Lonard and Ian Poulter secured top ten finishes in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic after impressive weeks at the PGA West Course, La Quinta, California where Justin Leonard won his first title for two years.
Lonard shot a final round level par 72 for a 24 under par total of 336 and a share of fourth place with America Loren Roberts, four adrift of Leonard. Poulter, who started the final round on joint fifth place following a breathtaking 63 in the penultimate round, closed with a one under par 71 for a 22 under par total of 338 and joint eighth place in the 90 hole event.
Leonard, who staring the final day three shots behind leader Joe Ogilvie, birdied three of the first four holes and started the back nine with a pair of birdies to take command.
Ogilvie, chasing his first PGA Tour victory, shot 73 and tied Tim Clark, winner of last week’s South African Airways Open on The European Tour International Schedule, for second place, three behind Leonard.
Poulter started badly with bogeys at the par three third and fifth holes. He had five birdies but dropped further shots at the 10th and 12th, another par three.
