Mattawang Golf Club announces forming its Junior Golf Camps

BELLE MEAD, N.J. -- Mattawang Golf Club’s four-day weekly junior golf camps are now open for enrollment. Mahlon Dow, manager and head professional, is one of New Jersey’s premier instructors and recently was named “One of the World’s Most Admired Operators” for 2008 by Golf, Inc. magazine. In 1994, Dow created what has become the largest junior golf camp program in central New Jersey at Mattawang. The camp is annually attended by over 400 children and includes instructional clinics, a league and the combination of adult/child tournaments. His program nurtures a love and respect for golf through instruction. Juniors learn to appreciate the history and rules of the game.

The Junior Golf Camp provides 16 hours of professional instruction covering all fundamentals including: iron play, woods, short game, putting, rules, etiquette for children ages eight and older. On-course instruction, games, lunch and gifts are also included. The Little Junior Golf Camp, running 75 minutes, covers the basics of golf designed for children ages four to eight. Dow teaches his students with two assistant pros and Sam Ollio, the Somerville High School golf coach who was named a New Jersey State Coach of the Year. Former camp students, now active in NCAA golf collegiate programs throughout the country, return to assist the children.

Mattawang is the family friendly course that has special tees specifically to accommodate younger children: yellow tees located around the 100-yard range for five to eight-year-olds, and green tees in front of the regular tee box for children between the ages of nine and twelve. Mattawang is the only New Jersey course offering this helpful feature for young golfers, which has contributed to enjoyable family rounds.
