VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- HorsePower Sports Marketing (HSM), the sanctioning body of the Horsepower Tee Shot Tour (HTST), proudly welcomes Marcos Ambrose, its seventh stock car personality, to the 2008 HTST season. The six “Power Golf” events constituting the HTST take place during Sprint Cup race weeks at select venues in close proximity to the race tracks between May and October of this year. All events are scheduled to air on the Speed Channel.
Ambrose made history in 2007, becoming the first non-North American driver to finish in the top 10 of a NASCAR championship (NSCS, NNS, NCTS) with eighth overall in his rookie season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (formerly NASCAR Busch Series). Ambrose was second to fellow Ford driver David Ragan in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings and achieved a best finish of fourth along with pole position at Memphis in November. During 2007, Ambrose achieved six Top 10 and nineteen Top 20 finishes. Voted the 2007 Australian Driver of the Year by Auto Action Magazine, Ambrose will take on new challenges this year, splitting time in the Sprint Cup Series and running the full NASCAR Nationwide schedule in the No. 59 Kingsford Ford Fusion.
When asked about his participation in this exciting new sports event, Ambrose had this to say: “As a keen golfer and racer, the HorsePower Tee Shot Tour really sounds like a great event in which to take part. There is no better feeling than smashing a 300 yard drive down the middle. I just wish I could hit that far! I am not the best player, but I am looking forward to seeing how my golf swing stands up against the power hitters. I know I will be left in their dust, but I hope to beat the other racers.”
John Mamoudis, President, HSM, is elated that Ambrose has joined the team. In response to the recent addition, he expressed these thoughts: “I am grateful for Marcos’ enthusiasm and approach to this game. I am sure his athletic skills will prevail.”
