Last May, PGA Tour players went pink. Next weekend, they'll do the same. "Is it some type of May Day celebration," people wondered? Well, no, it's actually much bigger than that. You see, this Mother's Day, CHAMP Spikes will be running its second "Pink on the Links" program to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). And this year, golf fans can be more involved than before.
Yes, this weekend, expect to see pro golfers on all tours make Paula Creamer's dream of a pink world come alive. The PGA, LPGA, Champions, European PGA, European Ladies, and Duramed Futures Tours will all be involved in the "Pink on the Links" program. For every player that wears pink over the weekend, CHAMP Spikes will make a donation to the BCRF.
After the golf, however, is where golf fans can come in. Starting on May 10, there will be an eBay charity auction, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the BCRF. Among the items scheduled to be auctioned:
- Autographed shoes from Tiger Woods
- Autographed shoes from Lorena Ochoa
- Autographed shoes from Padraig Harrington
- Autographed golf bag from Paul Casey
- Autographed shoes from Se Ri Pak
- Golf foursome with winner’s choice of FUTURES Tour player
The bidding will start May 10 and end May 20, with the auction held at www.stores.ebay.com/pinkonthelinks.
So this year, it's time for the entire golfing world to go pink.
"Our Pink on the Links program was so successful in 2007 that we wanted to capitalize on that momentum and turn things up a notch this year to raise more funds for breast cancer research," said Harris MacNeill, President, CHAMP Spikes. "This disease strikes so many women. Our hope is that more players on each Tour will decide to join the fight this year and make our 2008 program highly successful."
