POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge Golf Club, Pete Dye’s new and only course design in New York, announces the addition of three assistant PGA golf professionals to the staff. David Patrone, Adam Smith and Terry Slater will oversee golf operations, including management of the golf shop and tournaments, while providing exceptional service to golfers. Additionally, Mike DiBuono will offer an extensive program of golf instruction. The highly anticipated course is scheduled to open for public play the first week of July.
“I have found a great team of qualified assistant professionals who will represent Pound Ridge Golf Club well,” said General Manager Todd Leavenworth. “All three individuals are enthusiastic young professionals who bring a lot of knowledge of the game for both beginner golfers and more advanced players. Their spirit will transcend to the customer.”
David Patrone has worked in the Connecticut area for more than a decade and he most recently was the teaching professional and oversaw golf operations at Birchwood Country Club in Westport, Connecticut. His other experience includes first assistant professional positions at The Connecticut Golf Club in Easton and Rockrimmon Country Club in Stamford, Connecticut. Patrone was selected to three Met Squire Cup teams, an event that honors the 12 best assistants in the Met PGA Section, and he also served as president of the Met PGA Assistants’ Board from 2001-2002.
Adam Smith, who excels in member services and customer relations, became a Class A member of the PGA in November 2007. Before joining Pound Ridge, Smith was the teaching and first assistant professional at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton, Connecticut. Westchester Magazine listed him as one of the “Voted Best Pros” for 2005, while he was the PGA head professional at Somers Pointe Golf Club in Somers, New York. Smith also was the assistant golf professional at three other prestigious New York area clubs: Manhattan Woods Golf Club in West Nyack; Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, site of the LPGA Sybase Classic and HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship; and Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale during the 1997 Walker Cup.
Terry Slater, an accomplished golfer who qualified for the 2000 U.S. Amateur at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey, says that “the public will be blown away by the architecture and level of service at Pound Ridge Golf Club.” Slater began his golf career as an assistant professional at Pipers Landing Yacht and Country Club in Palm City, Florida. Slater has earned a number of distinctions, including being named Apprentice of the Year in 2006 for the South Florida PGA of America Section.
Michael DiBuono, has been named the Director of Golf Instruction. DiBuono is a Class A PGA of America member, and has been connected to the Pound Ridge community and the former 9-hole course for nearly thirty years.
