WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia has recently added Junior Tees to all three of its championship golf courses, allowing young or beginning golfers the opportunity to play alongside more experienced golfers. Each of the Junior Tee courses will play at approximately 4,000 yards, which is 1,000 yards shorter than the current forward tees, and special scorecards are also available that show the shorter modified yardage for each course.
The addition of the Junior Tees to The Greenbrier’s championship courses enhances the services already in place for beginner golfers. The resort’s Golf Academy, which features golf schools, daily clinics, private lessons, on course playing lessons and family lessons offers special Junior Clinics designed to introduce young golfers to the sport.
This year, The Greenbrier also hosts four Junior Golf tournaments, which will be played on the resort’s three championship courses. The world-renowned International Junior Golf Tour, held April 11-13, provided two days of junior tournament play on the famous Greenbrier and Old White courses. The challenging Meadows Course is the site of the other three events, the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour on June 24, the West Virginia Top Flite Junior Tour Championship on July 30 and the American Junior Golf Association Tournament on August 30-September 1.
All three of The Greenbrier’s 18-hole golf courses provide a variety of challenging holes while offering the photographic scenery of The Allegheny Mountains. The Greenbrier Course, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus, is the only resort golf course in the world to be the site of both professional international cup matches, the Ryder Cup and the Solheim Cup. The Greenbrier’s oldest course, The Old White Course, has played host to some of golf’s greatest, including Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson and Sam Snead.
