Tiger wins Buick title with Nike 460CC Driver

Jan. 26, 2005 – Tiger Woods captured his first PGA Tour win with the 460cc Nike Ignite driver last weekend at the Buick Invitational in Torrey Pines, California. The three-stroke margin of victory also represented his third win with Nike Golf's newest driver, his sixth with the Nike One Gold golf ball.

Woods first competed with the 460cc Nike Ignite, the largest driver allowable under USGA standards, at The Tour Championship last November where he finished in a tie for second. From there he went on to back-to-back wins at the Dunlop Phoenix and Target World Challenge. A third-place finish at the season-opening Mercedes Championships is the worst he has faired since moving from the 410cc Nike Ignite driver to the 460cc Nike Ignite.

Woods was slow to change to the larger head Nike Ignite driver when it was first available to him late in 2003. He was the first to tee up Nike Golf's next generation driver in September 2003, originally playing a prototype 340cc model but still featuring the proprietary NexTi face material and Around the Crown head construction. Woods moved to the stock-size 410cc mid-way through 2004 and picked up another 10 yards off the tee.

The 460cc Ignite has an incomparable sweet spot due to the combination of NexTi material and Around the Crown construction making it long and forgiving even on mis-hits.

Nike Golf's Forged Blade Irons and Forged Wedges (56-degree and 60-degree) have been in Woods' bag exclusively since September of 2002. He began playing the four-piece/three cover Nike One Gold golf ball midway through 2003.
